Why: It’s Just About… Life.

new blog picture

The two most important days in your life are the day you are born… and the day you find out why. – Mark Twain

Why? There’s a reason Mark Twain calls it important, because it is, it is why we are all here.  And if you can figure out that one thing then the how is easy,  the resources you need are abundant.  But first you must begin with your Why. We will get underway in just a moment…

First let me officially say welcome friends, tribe members and soon-to-be friends, to the re-launch of this blog. The site has been completely redesigned by the group at learntoblog.com, especially Clarke, who I have worked with over the past few months to make this a reality. I wanted to get it right, I believe we have. I can’t thank Clarke enough for being part of my team. Any dream needs a team and every day I meet extraordinary people and develop relationships which make this journey so fulfilling. Everyone matters. Everything matters. Every small, insignificant step leads to something bigger, it just takes dedication, discipline and focus. Little things mean a lot.

I made a promise to myself when I got to 250 blogs on this site: I would enhance, upgrade, and continue to enlighten others and myself, because by then my purpose would be clear, my motivation locked in, my WHY stronger than ever.  And it’s here, almost every day in black and white.  And yet I, we, are just beginning. Feel free to read some of The Blog Reviews or the Book Reviews on the sidebar of this blog, this is a brand new feature and they tell the story of how people are searching for inspiration, and validation that words have power. Words make a difference for me, for you, for anyone.

So Why? My why is to learn about the power of personal growth, to write, speak, share and inspire. My goal: to positively impact the lives of a billion people. That’s a billion with a “b”. Why not? We are all so connected it’s possible, probable and most importantly it fulfills a need. To figure out what your life is all about, why you are here, what gifts you possess, the unique talents with which you were born, the hidden treasures inside you, which when discovered and shared, enhances the lives of others.  Find your why and find your way. It’s not that difficult, but it’s so worth it.

Want inspiration? Then sign up and continue to receive lessons I am learning and sharing on personal growth, personal stories, some mine, some through the lives of others, to prove the world is a great place and you have greatness to share with all of us. Want to put your life in perspective and gain inspiration, gratitude and love…then read my Sunday Series posts, any of them.  The stories I share each week about people overcoming some of life’s greatest obstacles, or doing what they were born to do and leading the way, are people showing us all how to put the extra in front of ordinary to become extraordinary. They will move you, inspire you and realize greatness is within all of us.

This blog is being launched exactly eight months after I published my very first book, It Takes 2. Surviving Breast Cancer: A Spouse’s Story, (www.spouses-story.com, www.amazon.com/author/markbrodinsky).  When I decided to publish the book, which is the journal of the journey my wife and I experienced as she battled back against breast cancer in 2012-2013, my purpose was clear…to share our story, told in my words, through my eyes and from my heart, and help others forced to face the same cancer reality. In just a few days it became a  #1 Best Seller on Amazon, and the mission continues today. But I made a mistake, actually a miscalculation, that publishing a book could be a be-all, end-all for my WHY and a gigantic step to the next level. What I soon came to understand is that it was a quantum leap, but that’s it. The journey did not begin and did not end there. It was simply a significant step in the right direction in fulfilling my purpose.

What is yours? Do you know? Have you ever taken the time to bring it into focus? Or have you simply done this:

Think. Think. Think.

Wish. Wish. Wish.

Dream. Dream. Dream.

It’s OK if that’s all you’ve done. It’s OK if that’s all you ever want to do. It’s OK if you think you can’t, don’t want to, or don’t care. It’s Ok if you think this is all silly. Then this blog is not for you.  If I try to be everything to everyone, I am nothing to no one.

But if you want to live the life you deserve, then keep reading and sign in at the top of this blog, because we are going to figure this out together…for you and for me. More than 50,000 participants have already chosen that path, even before I launched the redesign today, defined my purpose more clearly (I hope), and tell you I want to inspire, motivate and help you get there. Face the truth: your world, your life doesn’t truly resonate unless what you are good at, what you do better than most, intersects with what you love to do. If where  you are going and what you are trying to accomplish is in line with your purpose, your why, then magic happens. Why live a life which leads to its ultimate disappointment…would of, could of should of.

You can! You are! Have no doubt! Be more. Live more. Start small and the life the life you deserve. I’m going to help you go inside and figure it out. Once you do, the how is everywhere, through me, through others, through countless resources, all at your fingertips. Want to take a small step to begin, then click on The Higher Shelf! tab at the top of this blog and pick any of the 15 books I have read over the past 18 months — and read just 10 pages a day, 5 pages in the morning and 5 pages at night, and see your life begin to change. It works, I’m living it. It’s a small step, seemingly insignificant, that can’t help but redefine your life and bring it into focus. If you want to reach the higher shelves in life, then stand on the books you read.

Small steps. I worked in TV for 13 years before I won an Emmy. I worked in the insurance industry for nine years before I became the number one producer in the history of my division. It took me more than a year to set a new record at my current financial services firm for writing more life business than any rookie ever had. I kept an intensely personal and emotional journal for 18 months, chronicling my wife’s battle and heroism in the face of breast cancer, before it became a book and a #1 best-seller. I started this blog 16 months ago, before today and the re-launch and ability to connect with thousands more individuals than I already do. We are nearly 50,000 strong and growing. Every worthwhile endeavor takes time. But that first step means you are on the way to mastery.

So get ready. Today is a new beginning. Start thinking, feeling, go deep inside, then think, wish, dream and do the one thing that 95% of people don’t do, take action. Write down your dream, your vision and begin to plan. It’s ok to start small, in fact, it’s required. I’m going to help. And feel free to share. Sign on to follow the blog. You have the commitment from me, and my blog, at least three times a week, (and usually more) to share information I have learned, or I am learning, to help get you where you want to go. Be the change maker we all need so badly. Don’t live life to survive… live life and thrive. Live the life you deserve.

Find your why and find your way. One Billion Lives Served: I’m on the way.

Until next time, thanks for taking the time.

Mark

I’m definitely along for the ride. We’ve all seen how much damage the written word can inflict. More positive writers are needed. And I love how you are using your personal experiences – those with your wife and children – and your gift of writing to open eyes and to inspire others.

From your first writing in 4th grade entitled “People” which was published in the school newspaper, you have always been able to write. Never more so than when you started “Caringbridge” and now your blog, everyone who reads says what a wonderful writer you are. Our DREAM for you is to become an author and encourage people every day. You are by the far the best and we hope and pray you reach your dream.

WOW!!! It Takes 2 is a must read for anyone who has known someone diagnosed with cancer or other life threatening disease. This is the real story of a family lead by an incredible woman, Debbie Brodinsky, who took radical steps to beat the breast cancer beast. The story is told by her husband, Mark Brodinsky, through journal entries he kept starting with diagnosis through one year cancer free. This author's unique ability to pour his heart out onto the page draws you in from the beginning and holds you until the very end.

Thanks to Mark and Debbie Brodinsky for this gift...I have a new perspective on what it means to be a breast cancer survivor. You are a hero, Debbie Brodinsky!

This book gives a heartfelt, in depth description of what it is like to go through breast cancer with the one you love. It is beautifully written and I felt as though I was living it with them! I highly recommend this book!

In It Takes 2, Mark Brodinsky windows us into his world where his wife, the cancer patient, is not the only victim. Part journal, part roadmap, It Takes 2 goes to the real humanity of facing the mortality of one's better half. Mark's candid perspective, love, and fierce intention resonate with hope in a story which is about much more than cancer. Mark himself is perhaps the most heroic character for the way he appreciates this life and so many of us in it...as he says, "thanks for caring."

It Takes Two: A Spouse's Story by Mark Brodinsky should be read by every person who is experiencing serious illness or injury or by a loved one of someone who is experiencing either of those situations. The book is an eloquent testament to the power of love and the healing energy derived from the belief that things will get better. There is not one word of "poor me" from the author or his wife who suffered breast cancer and the radical surgery she elected to have to beat the cancer. Rather, the book is a celebration of the courage displayed by them both in seeing it through.

The book also encourages readers to speak and write down their true feelings and be validated in them. John Mackovic writing in the Palm Springs, CA Desert Sun on November 2, 2013 quoted author and artist Doe Zantamata who said, " To be happy, you don't have to do anything new. You just have to remember how to believe again...Believe everything good is possible. Believe in your dreams. Believe in people. Believe in love. But most of all...believe in yourself." The author, his wife, their family and extended family and friends never stopped believing in his wife's recovery, and I think, in themselves. Read this book and believe.

This book is a must read for anyone with a family member with breast cancer. It takes you through the spouse's perspective from diagnosis to recovery. Mark journaled his wife's journey and put all of his emotions out there. It is beautifully written and inspiring to anyone going through breast cancer. Thank you, Mark for sharing Debbie's story.

A friend recommended this book. This was a great perspective of a man standing beside his partner and passing along to the reader fear, hope, useful information and a broader story than his own. I loved Vinnie the tattoo artist. This is a great book. Thanks for sharing, Mark and "thanks for caring"

This book is a must read. What sets this book apart from other books about surviving breast cancer is that it is told by the husband and his point of view, not from the survivor. At times sad, at times poignant but even through the worst of it you can always feel the love he has for his wife, her strength and the strength of their extended family and friends. The posts that are included from their friends and family lets you really into the heart and strength of the family. I would recommend this book to anyone who is currently going through this, whether you are the person or the caregiver. I also recommend this book to anyone who has a friend that has been or is currently going through their fight now. It was an eye opener for me.

There isn't a shortage of books about breast cancer, but most are written from the perspective of the person who has battled cancer or a physician or other expert. What an enlightening experience to read about breast cancer from a husband and caregiver's perspective! Not only does the author give us insight into his wife's experience and emotions, but he openly shares and reveals his love, compassion, support, and, yes, sometimes anger at the disease as he stands by his wife's side during their journey to beat the beast. Your story may not be the same, but I guarantee if you have a loved one battling cancer, you won't go wrong reading It Takes 2.

From the moment I opened this book I never stopped reading. Mark invites the reader to come along on this journey that his family went through. I cried, laughed and learned so much. This book will give comfort and knowledge to those going through similar situations. Most importantly, Mark and his family never give up. They get knocked down and get right back up. They fought cancer together and with their strength, determination and will to prevail... They do!
