Picture a snowball perched on top of a mountain. It starts rolling slowly at first, then faster and faster down the side of the mountain picking up everything in its path, growing bigger and bigger, rolling faster and faster as it races toward the bottom, nothing can get out of its way.
It’s fueled by momentum, but will sit silently at the top of the same mountain, filled with potential until it can gain the momentum to start moving. Once that happens however it is virtually unstoppable.
For you, for me, it’s time to roll.
Leadership guru John C. Maxwell says he meets people all the time who are like the snowball at the top of that hill: “They are filled with extraordinary potential but all too often they just sit there. They won’t give themselves that little push to get started, and all of that potential energy inside goes to waste. Every person has the seed of potential inside, but few people every fully grow it.”
The best thing to know about potential is it can build upon itself and it works like that giant snowball, growing, moving, becoming an unstoppable force. Your snowball of extraordinary potential – now unleashed – will also collect other lives in its path. People you can help, people you can teach, people who want to be part of what you are doing and it needs these other people to get bigger and bigger, to move faster and faster, and when that happens little can get in its way, if it does, and things will – you use the opportunity to learn and grow and keep the ball rolling.
Want to write a book? Want to play an instrument? Want to take up a sport? Want to lose weight? Want to start an exercise routine? Want to be a better parent, spouse, friend? Want to get a degree or certification? Want to earn more? Want to love more? Want to grow more? What you want is simply waiting for you to begin, to get the ball rolling.
Problems can’t stop you, other people can’t stop you, only you can stop you.
All it takes is a little push to get your snowball moving. One positive message, one book, one CD, one video, one lesson, or a little bit of love, or encouragement from someone you look up to – and the momentum begins.
Don’t hold back. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Stop stalling and make the decision to move forward.
It’s time to roll.
Until next time, thanks for taking the time
