Nothing wrong with doing that, it’s encouraged. Go for small dreams and you will have small results, go for big dreams, believe in what is possible, and you never know, or maybe you do, if you have a plan, a band and a big flame.
That band is other people. Even the solo artist has others who play music, sing back-up, help handle their career. Few can, or should do it alone. And why would you want to? It’s much more fun to bring other people along for the ride, one team, one dream.
I read a great line yesterday by Ferdinand Foch, “The most powerful force in the world is the soul on fire.” Foch would know something about that, at one point he was Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Armies in World War I. Talk about the need to light up your soul, try leading other men into battle, into the human sacrifice of war.
Any endeavour worthwhile will mean some sacrifice, not with your life, but with your soul, passion and sharing your “gift”, but it also needs other people.
Yesterday, I sat in on a meeting of INsight, a local group, actually many groups, (http://www.gaininsight.pro/), centered on a purpose and a mission: “We believe every business owner has a right to be successful as defined by themselves and not by others.” I like the mission, because it leaves it up to you to define your success, but then brings other people into the mix to ask questions, offer advice and brainstorm for solutions. Fan the flames of your soul, make sure they blow in the right direction, not to burn others, but to provide warmth. Give back, feel the heat.
If you look up the word insight, it is the ability to understand people and situations in a clear way. I met people yesterday who listened, asked questions, are ready to help, ready to come close and warm their hands next to the flames of my own soul, and I to theirs. A flame burning alone in the universe won’t give off much heat, because there is no around to feel it. But imagine if you can catch fire with a big idea, a mission, your gift and then sit others around that burning flame to feed it, share ideas, share vision, share purpose and help you create a grand plan. Then, you’re on fire.
The band is warming up, the heat is on, watch out.
Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
