It’s the easiest thing to do, and the most difficult at the same time. There is something you want to accomplish, some goal you want to reach, some vision you have in your mind’s eye, but you just can’t seem to get there. You know why though…sure you do.
You haven’t yet begun. Take the first step.
You say you don’t have the time. Last time I checked, you, I and everyone else has the same amount of time. Same minutes in an hour, same hours in a day, same days in a week. So what are you waiting for? Get going.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step, if you don’t believe it, ask those coming back.
So many ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things every day, because they just got up and got going. They made the decision to own their time and just begin. It couldn’t be more simple, but it’s so complicated if you don’t start. You get lost in the whirlwind of life, of dreams unfulfilled, of life without a legacy, and a world which suffers because you never got up off the mat and shared your talents.
Your time is priceless. Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.”
Take the time to begin today. I can only share my most recent example of the decision to write a book. The idea was there, but rattled around in my mind, a dream in my heart, until I took the first step. Then I saw progress, then I saw a way, then others saw what I was trying to accomplish and decided to help. I shared the vision in my heart and others who also have one, chose to buy in. But only, only, because I decided to begin.
Is it hard? Nothing is hard if you break it into small steps. Challenging? You bet. Filled with highs and lows? Yes. Moving forward? Every day. Because I took the first step.
That’s the step you can’t neglect in pursuing your dream… the first one.
Take the first step and watch what happens because you had the courage to try. When is the right time? Now. When do you take the first step? Today. There is no right time it’s simply time to begin.
It can be as simple as writing down your idea, goal, vision and then starting to develop a plan to pursue it, reach it, realize it, improved the world and make us better because you simply began. One step at a time.
And don’t be afraid. Failure is completely acceptable, sometimes unavoidable, sometimes preferable because it means you are finding your way and learning from your mistakes. You get plenty of chances to get it wrong, but it only takes one to get it right.
Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
