The Road Ahead

A new beginning. Cancer free, (though we won’t know 100% until final pathology report next week, but all inital tests show lymph nodes negative).
From Dr. Chang – reconstruction went perfectly. It went fast as well!! She has great “skin pockets” which means a teriffic candidate for beautiful new breasts. He put in the expanders and 50cc of fluid to get the process started and more to come over the following weeks and months to stretch the tissue and muscle and prepare for implants. As if Deb wasn’t hot enough before. 🙂
Saw her a little while ago in the recovery room, and while in some pain, she looks great. She will stay in recovery until the nurses and doctors believe she is ready to go upstairs and once the room is ready. She’ll be on the 14th floor but we don’t know what room yet.
Many, many thanks to everyone who has supported us and comforted us while we played the waiting game to get to surgery day. Thanks to all those who have offered help and prayers. It has all paid off. The road to full recovery will not be a breeze, but being cancer-free was always the ultimate goal and it appears we have arrived.
Thanks to all the family, especially Sharon and Alisa, who have suffered right along with Deb… worrying with her and for her. As her Mom and Sister I get the bond… and know that her pain was shared every step of the way. And thanks to the many, many friends (our extended family) who have lent a helping hand already and kept us in your prayers. Our good friend Debbie Rosenbaum, has a sign that hangs in her family room, my favorite one of all time: “Friends are the family you meet along the way”.
Indeed. I can never thank you enough.
This is all a huge relief. I needed this out of her, because now WE are in control and not held hostage to cells that have no place in anyone’s body.
Once we are up in a room, I will update again. Keep the good vibes coming.
Thanks for caring, thanks for sharing, thanks for being there.
