If you want to have a great Hump Day, then focus in on the one hump you might never even try to climb over every week – yourself.
Take it from someone who knows. Someone who just a few years ago was named the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx. She’s the woman who created the slimming undergarment apparel which has become a cultural phenomenon.
I’ve listened to her interview about a dozen times on one of the Darren Hardy Success CD’s I own and Sara couldn’t be more natural and engaging. There’s a reason most successful people are just that way – they keep it simple, but they also do the one thing that separates them from everyone else. They invest in themselves.
When Sara was only 16-years-of-age her Dad gave her a cassette tape, (yes there used to be cassette tapes), of a Wayne Dyer audio program on How to be a No-Limit Person. Sara says she listened to those tapes over and over again and there was even a running joke about them among her closest friends. After any party they would attend her friends would say, “don’t get into Sara’s car because she’s going to make you listen to those tapes!”
When it was announced in 2012 that Sara was the youngest female billionaire, guess what Sara’s friends sent to her – a note which read – “We wish we listened to the tapes.” 🙂
Simple. Sara found it rewarding to figure out what she was all about. Finding her WHY gave her WHAT greater impact. So when she went after a problem she wanted to solve, like helping other women, Sara went after it in a big way. She never thought small, she only believed in having no limits.
So her answer to the final question in the interview is the one I encourage you to think about yourself throughout this day: Why do you think people need to invest in their personal development?
Oh my gosh. Personal development and taking the time for yourself to think and understand yourself and process the world around you in a way that fosters your greatness and helps you fulfill your greatest potential, is the greatest gift you could give yourself. We spend a lot of time going to the gym and working on our physical appearance. We spend a lot of time being entertained and a lot of money being entertained and basically distracted from ourselves. So I’m in the camp of trying to carve out the time for yourself, reflecting and taking time to go inward, because the gifts are unbelievably exponential.”
That’s a powerful answer. Can’t wait to listen to my next tape. (CD :))
Until next time, thanks for taking the time
